A great starting point is to join us at one of our open rehearsals. This will give you feel of ‘what we are about’, meet us and enjoy singing with us at a rehearsal.
Hopefully you will be inspired to audition! Whilst the audition process can seem a little scary, we make it supportive and ‘painless’! The audition process is an important aspect of ensuring we maintain the high choral standards for which we are known. Below maps out the process for joining Auckland Choral. Give it a go – you’ll see that we are a group of diverse people, with a shared passion of choral singing. We’re a friendly community. Singing is fun, uplifting, inspiring… tonic for the soul. At Auckland Choral you will also enjoy with a healthy dose of musical challenge… and you’ll make some wonderful new friendships too!
Auditions for new members will be held several times throughout the year, usually at the beginning of a new rehearsal programme. Each audition will last for approximately 10 minutes and will be conducted by the Musical Director and a vocal coach. It will involve singing an unaccompanied prepared piece, some aural tests (singing back played notes, pitching notes in chords, clapping rhythms), and some sight reading. Written feedback will be received by all who take part within a few days and if you are successful, you will be welcomed into the choir.
